Solar & Storage Live Vietnam 2025

Last week, our Managing Director Thomas Jakobsen joined two high-level panels at the annual Solar & Storage Live Vietnam 2025, sharing practical insights into Vietnam’s energy sector future outlook.

On the first panel: Unlocking Vietnam’s solar and wind potential: When will green financing truly take off?, we believe that finance has already taken off.

Vietnam has already deployed over 20 GW or solar and 6 GW of wind in just a few years. This demonstrates a clear sign that Vietnam doesn’t lack investor interest and that green finance is already flowing at scale.

This means the real question is not “when” will Vietnam’s solar potential take off, but what’s holding it back from functioning efficiently?
Our answer is nothing. With the release of a new Law on Electricity early 2025, policy clarity is no longer the bottleneck. Finance is already flowing. Now the challenge is no longer capital—but clarity, discipline, and execution that aligned with Vietnam’s energy goals. It’s time to let the market operate and mature.

A big thank you to Quynh Do Ngoc (FiinRatings – A Strategic Partner of S&P Global) for moderating and Helen Han (IFC – International Finance Corporation), Jessica Nga Tran (Clime Capital), Thuong Duong (ecoligo), and Dhiraj Shangari, CFA, MBA for sharing their valuable expertise.

On the second panel: Vietnam’s energy storage market: Business opportunities and collaboration potential, we believe that some challenges remain but there is a path forward for BESS.

  • C&I battery storage is already viable. IEP has raised financing for 200MWh and is actively rolling out with customer demand.
  • Grid-only storage is not bankable. There is no compensation for ancillary services under current regulations, and we don’t believe it should be the area of advocacy focus.
  • Grid and power plant connected storage. With a minimum investment requirement now in place, this helps lower the negative effects of the intermittency on the grid which we believe are fair rules from EVN.

Thank you to Christian Schaefer (Blueberry Energy Vietnam) for moderating and it was a pleasure to join the panel alongside The An Ha (Earth Venture Capital), Raghav Malhotra (Levanta Renewables) and Nhu Quynh Ta (JERA Nex).

Overall, we would like to thank Solar & Storage Live Vietnam 2025 for giving us the chance to share our perspectives and opinions. It was great to catch up with different players in the sector and explore the latest technologies available.

We truly believe 2025 will be a great year for Vietnam’s renewable energy sector and we are excited for more to come.
